Beer in the time of Coronavirus

Our hearts go out to all the folks affected by COVID-19 and we encourage everyone to do the right thing to protect themselves and prevent more spreading.

We come to you today with a plea to keep small businesses in mind as they navigate uncertain territory. As local breweries continue to operate over the coming weeks and months, we encourage you to support them by buying their beer or simply by purchasing gear from their online stores. Several breweries may remain open while others are offering to-go beers. We encourage you to pick up crowler or a 6-pack if you can.

Below is a list of breweries in the Upper Westside of Atlanta that could use your love in the time of COVID-19. All of them have released statements on the action they are taking to protect customers and employees from spreading anything harmful. News is changing fast so be sure to check before you go.

We also encourage you to donate to the Giving Kitchen. Many staff from bars and restaurants stand to lose their jobs and can use the support of the community.

Be safe and responsible out there. Cheers.

Giving Kitchen provides emergency assistance to food service workers through financial support and a network of community resources.

Brewery Construction Begins!

Our vision at Round Trip Brewing Co. is to welcome the community to enjoy world-class beer in a dynamic space that encourages exploration and camaraderie.

The journey to making this vision a reality is a step closer. We are happy to announce construction on our two-story 26,000 sq ft brewhouse and taproom has begun. The brewery is located in the Underwood Hills neighborhood in the emerging brewing district of the Upper Westside of Atlanta.

The facility will include a taproom, brewhouse, event space, packaging hall, and an adaptable outdoor area.

Taproom

The centerpiece of our facility – the taproom – comprises seats aplenty for 250 guests to sample the 12 beers on tap. Custom-made tables and benches built by Broken Fence Woodworking provide a comfortable communal environment for people to enjoy the beer. The taproom is a space for after work socials, softball team gatherings, artist showcases, comedy and improv performances, live music, and striking up a conversation with a stranger.

Next to the taproom, the brewery features a dedicated event booking space with private bar access. The versatile outdoor area can be adapted for different functions and events as well.

Whether you drink beer or not, the brewery will be open to you. You can even bring the kids!

Brewhouse

We worked closely with Probrew to outfit us with a three vessel 15 barrel brewhouse. It incorporates a dedicated mash tun that collects final runnings from the previous batch, making it highly efficient. The kettles have a beautiful, German-style dish top design which will be viewable from the taproom. Additionally we have 30 barrel fermenters for double batches and 7 barrel tanks for one-off tap room creations.

Packaging and distribution will take place on the second floor where you will also find the brewery’s offices. Since our goal is to build a strong taproom culture to start, the distribution space will be reserved for private putt-putt practice.

Our Partners

We selected companies with specific expertise and an intimate knowledge of the Atlanta beer industry to bring the vision of the brewery to life.

Morrison Shearer is the contractor responsible for overseeing construction. Their work includes the recently completed second location for Cherry St. Brewing Company in Cumming.

Placemaker Designs, who worked to develop Reformation Brewing’s taproom in Woodstock and the Beacon development in Grant Park, serves as the architect on the project.

East Mountain Development, led by Alex Brennan, consults on the project as a whole and coordinates with all stakeholders.

We are excited to join the growing list of breweries in the neighborhood and look forward to seeing the area become a prominent beer destination.

So, that’s our space. We cannot wait for you to regale us with your travel stories when you stop by the brewery with your friends in a few months.

In the meantime, be sure to subscribe to our Travelogue newsletter for more updates on the brewery’s progress. You can also follow us on social media @RoundTripBeer or share your own beer adventurers using the hashtag #RoundTripBeer. 111

Notes from Great American Beer Festival

Great American Beer Festival (GABF) took place earlier this month in beautiful Denver, CO and once again Round Trip Brewing Co attended the annual gathering of 60,000 industry reps and beer enthusiasts. For Craig Mycoskie, our founder and head brewer, it was his 13th straight GABF and second time judging a variety of beer categories.

On Saturday, the lucky visitors to the CollaBEERation Tent were able to sample Rahr Trip – our dry hopped Krystall Weizen collaboration with Rahr & Sons Brewing Company. While Rahr Trip did not earn a medal in the collaboration category, it did earn high marks and positive reviews from everyone who sampled it.

GABF gave us the opportunity to meet new friends from breweries we admire, discuss business with potential vendors, and sample the endless array of beer from around the nation. We also met up with our good friends from Denver Beer Co, Epic Brewing, Post Brewing, Rahr & Sons, Wayfinder Brewing, and more.

Next year, the plan is to enter original Round Trip beer for the awards and for Craig to add to his collection of six GABF medals won with previous breweries.

Beer Announcement: Rahr Trip

Round Trip Brewing has teamed up with Rahr & Sons Brewing for our first collaboration: [beer name]. The beer is available at Rahr & Sons in Fort Worth, Texas starting in July until the taps run dry.
